Bought our 96' SE in 2000 w/ 62000 miles...previous owner said no repairs had ever been needed. It's now at 133k and I've replaced the water pump...nothing else other than routine maintence (fuel filter, plugs and wires, etc.). It's been 100% the most reliable Ford I've ever seen.

Fluid changes aside....

Most replacements were because I wanted to. The only truly bad parts have been faulty o2 sensors, main cat clogged, heater hose ruptured, dead battery, broken cupholders and broken ashtray door (a big box broke both at the same time, totally my bad move).

Done myself:
Plugs, wires, air filter/CTA intake, battery, ashtray door, fuel filter, fuel door, oxygen sensors, UIM gasket, heater hose (the short one from water pump to block, beneath the manifolds = PITA), coil pack, brake pads and rotors, rear sway bushings, lighted spoiler, stereo, cd changer, speakers, cabin air filter, unclogged the main cat , steering fluid replacement (trans fluid), fog light rewire, 3x dash replacement (took a few tries to get a good one), clock illumination light, fog lamp lenses and bulbs, xenon headlamp bulbs, cupholders, transmission oil cooler, throttle hang fix, serpentine belt.

Had done at a shop:
Water pump (before it broke), resonator muffler removal, Flowmaster 940 series replaced rear muffler, trans fluid change.

Next on list:
Front sway bar end links and bushings << myself
Rear sway bar links << hopefully myself, maybe shop (depends on how they are connected)
Struts (& probably springs) << shop, no confidence to do it myself
high-flow main cat << myself
Wheel bearings << shop
Steering knuckle << shop
