Lots of sweet cars don't have any sort of door ding guards on them (Porsche 996 for example). I think the idea is just to take really good care to park wisely. T.

Yeah I've seen that crusty crap, IMO any pre 97 car would risk paint problems. If anyone is considering this(pre 97)try and examine the paint around the guards VERY closely to check for defects. A couple other things, the paint seems to be MUCH MORE scratch resistent on earlier contiques. Maybe more clear coat, not sure. Also, The earlier cars use a different type of adhesive than 98+ cars do, because of the different style moldings. Much easier on your fingers than the thin grey stuff on 98+ tours. 96 I know for sure has a thick white foam like typical 3M double sided foam tape, much thicker than the newer type. Brad

Ryan Wood nailed it. When I look at my other vehicle I bought new 2 years ago, the door ding gaurds do little. It has dings well above and below the plastic, and it's a 4x4 truck. So, you might as well make it look cleaner by removing the gaurds.

Use Meguires and Zaino products to clean it up with absolutly no clear coat problems...I had the car for over a year before I tried this mod. I was VERY nervous about doing it because I didn't want to screw up the paint but it was really no big deal. ANYWAY...here are some pics...
Sharp car, but I didn't even notice the ding gaurds were removed. The car was to clean and those TSW Revo wheels are so sharp on a tour that I didn't even notice. Nice job on that hard to own black paint... ------------------ Brad Noon '99 SE MTX, finally supercharged!!!! http://www.bnmotorsports.com

rainshdw looks great! What size wheels and what springs are you running? Your car has a really nice stance to it.

funny I just typed this answer in another forum....here
I was in Japan trying to figure out what kind of rims to put on...only a few manufactures made rims that fit 4 on 4 1/4 at the time and TSW was the only ones I liked. To tell you the truth I almost didn't pick those until my wife said they looked kinda cool...then I used a imaging program and placed it on my desktop for a few months. I had to have them. I was also not going to get chrome, that's the wife's doing also...guess that's why she's my wife. I'm really glad I got the chrome ones now too. The sizes are 17"x7 and 215 45ZR17's Tried 225's but it felt weird to steer...like it wanted to track funny. Not too much rubbing with those or the ones I have now. I did have a small problem with the rear ones. It turned out to be a small metal flange in the wheel well...I just grinded it down and now I have zero rub. oh and I put an Eibach Pro-kit on it.
