Crapcast.... making a Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad move

not where I live! its great here - the fastest you can get in the area.

so with a product like the linksys you can just hook it up to a cable line and use the net? My father is hooked up through comcast but pays for it in a package with his cable. Do I need to pay for their service or can I just hook it directly inline at the cable outlet? ( i have comcast cable but pay for a wireless slow ass connection)

I have Crapcast, Yeah, its nice when it works... But when it doesnt, its a pain in the ass. We call and complain to Comcast, they dont do [censored] "Oh, restart your modem... " "Lady, i know this, im a computer technican at Best Buy! Stop reading your monitor"

And it isn't just me, SEVERAL customers come to us to complain about Comcast "My internet doesn't work" I have to tell them to call Comcast. I'm lucky I live in a hotspot of ISP's, not many WAPs have WEP Protection, so when Comcast fails, I use my neighbor's SBC Yahoo! DSL. We're debating on ditching Crapcast, get DirecTV, SBC Yahoo! DSL, and no more crapcast!

So I know my Internet failing constantly is common between other users, and when my Comcast fails, a neighbor's is generally failed too. This is our 6th Cable modem from Comcast BTW. Also this is our 3rd router. Even when the failures, I plug it straight to a PC, and it's failed. Also DHCP Release/renew fails horribly. So out of personal experience, and many customer complaints. I strongly recommend to find a DSL Line instead of Comcast.

Sounds like you have a low signal at the tap, I would NEVER go from Comcast to DSL. I would check your higher channels on your TV and see how the picture is , then check your lower ones as well . What type of coax do you have ? How many splitters ? Do you have a amplifier ? as far as your modems being replaced , whoever is replacing them are idiots because they dont normally " GO BAD" Once the modem has a QOS "quality of service" Then it goes through a REG-RSP Registration and once that passes the modem comes online.

First check your coax
try to get the modem as close as you can to the outside connection, and getting a amplifier "can" help but if you plan to get one from Radio Shack forget it . If you need one PM me I have around 60 of them

Your DHCP release is because your running the cheap service , I will use this as a example d11_m_sb5120_silver_c01.cm

Now if you was running a better service you wouldn't have a renew / release d10_m_ubr905_ccowps_c05.cm

Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.

Wow, we never had a problem with Comcast cable internet when we were in South Carolina. There was a couple of times it would go off, but they were quick to come fix it. Our speed was great on Comcast too, not as quick as Cox here in Arizona, but pretty damn fast. I would NEVER go to DSL or dial up as long as we have cable internet around.
Oh, and my husband wrote that earlier post for me. He was getting frustrated with trying to find the Linksys modem in the second link, so he stole my computer and looked up a few modems of his own.
For the original poster, I am not sure if my husband made it clear for you, but you MUST find a modem with DOCSIS or it won't work on Comcast. Good luck.

Almost 99% of the newer modems are Docsis ready , even the old Motorola Surfboard 2100's has is docsis ready and thats an OLD modem.

i think things went a little off topic... I have been hearing that D-link isnt the best (as of now my d-link wireless card is crap... but my bro's works awesome.) I have heard nothing but good from lynksys products. And have heard of motorola but never heard anything about them. Basically i dont want to buy a piece of crap that i will have to replace in a year... like my wireless card.

Linksys all the way! Anything else (besides netgear) is crapola. Period.

well i'm sorry that you cant stand it... but thats how it is... so tough. Anywho... i just read some funn stuff about lynksys having problems with their modems when downloading big files, people saying that the modem has connection problems with large files. And i looked at the motorola 5100 and the 5120... the 5100 had a lot of good reviews, but there was nothing on the 5120.
