"settling" for the ATX (no offense to ATX owners, I am a former) will put a large damper on your 14's. Not saying you can't DO it.. just realize that it will take more in an ATX to acheive the same goal as in an MTX..

If you truly want an MTX, broaden your search area a little...
What part of OK are you in? Have you been in the South Central forums on CEG, yet? Check the classifieds on this site, as well.. I have seen MTX duratecs for sale like crazy, lately. Its nothing that a quick flight and a well deserved "aquaintence drive" won't fix, if it is out of state.

if you wanna get 14's buy a duratech (the v6 model) with an atx that has a blown motor, or some major mechanical problem for cheap, then maybe put a 3L in it. that might be a bit expensive, but if you want 14's thats a good way to do it imo (and probably cheaper than buying an SVT)

If you want to get into the 14s, don't buy a Contour. It's not a drag car- at all. It's a great handling, reasonably accommodating sedan with decent acceleration. If straight lines are your thing, donâ??t waste your money. Youâ??ll spend the next part of your life shuddering at the word â??wheelhopâ?. If you can get over the drag thing (and maybe get your speed kicks at an autocross), then by all means, keep looking until you find a decent MTX V-6. I recommend looking hard for a 95-97 SE. I would take one over a 98-99 SVT, and they are much cheaper.

Totally true, Tours are autocross cars, not Drag Racers. They can whip Civics, but not alot else. To get high e/t's, spend the $$$ on a RWD V8 or a turbo 4/V6 car

i know they aren't made for the drag strip but i just want one that is decent in the quarter and on the street, mostly for the sleeper factor, i planned on the 3L swap , basic mods, port and polishing here and there, and a healthy dose of nitrous, maybe a vortech or turbo later

If you want to buy an se V6 and mod it and make it look and drive like an SVT the guy you need to talk to is Skunk. I had the pleasure of seeing his car this weekend, and man is it nice......for an se. If it wasnt for the seats i couldnt tell its not an svt. Im sure he can answer any questions you have.

If you want a sleeper, get an S/C Buick. And if it's a sleeper, why make it look like an SVT? If it's to be an SVT clone, why are you looking at an ATX? Also, nitrous doesn't surprise people anymore.

Now for the real issue. If you can't afford an SVT, you can't afford a 14 second sleeper sedan. There are probably many other things that money should be used for, especially since you can't find any manual-shift Contour in your price range. The Contour is not a cheap car to make go fast, especially in the 1/4 mile. Instead of butchering something that otherwise might go to a good home, buy something more suited to your needs. I don't like Hondas, but a properly modded '89 Civic Si will kick my ass in STS every time, for less money than my car is worth. I'm sure there is a similar bang-for-the-buck car in the drag racing world. I'm sure the Contour isn't it. I love the car, but I know its limitations.

One more note: there are many other punctuation marks besides the comma. The period is a great one, especially when followed with a capital letter. Done right, these can be used to make "sentences".
