A bit of a dumb question here. I have a 96 Mystique that I feel the transmission is going to go soon on ( it's around 250K and shifts really rough ).

How hard would it be to install a manual transmission, if it's possible at all ?

( I know anythings possible if there's enough money spent, what I mean, is it possible to do it for the same price as a tranny rebuild )

What I meant was, is it cost effective, seeing it's a '96 4 banger...

I don't want to spend more than what the car is worth , you see...

It all depends on who does the labor and what you can find for parts/prices. If your paying someone then most likely its not worth it. You really need to be able to find the parts really cheap to make it worthwhile. I was the first to do this and I kept my ATX subrframe as well. It has been this way for about 9 months now. I also have a 96 mystique.

i dont know about that......

i started before you IIRC but finished later due to lack of funds, but then again i got a torsen a spec stage 3 and a spec flywheel i could definetaly do the swap in a weekend provided i got all the parts in front of me

i know there is someone that did it before i did too

as for the answer to the original question...

if you can do the labor yourself and get the parts cheap its definetaly worth it. if you cant, then its not. best way is to get a donor car and strip the parts off of it, thats what i did.

its so much better with a mtx

Like Russel said a donor car is the best method if you can find one and have a space for it. I am sure there is somebody who has done the swap before I did but nobody active on CEG because everyone said it had never been done and would require a new engine harness ect. But I am the first for sure with a focus powered turbo mystique that also has a atx to mtx swap
