I think the argument that has been posed throughout this thread is that our culture is as it is because of religion.
I could, however, point out that Europe, though widely Christian, doesn't maintain the same stigma regarding sex as much of the US does. It would then become an argument of different sects of Christianity maintaining different views on sex than others.
