With women, they do end up going elsewhere for emotional attachment if they aren't getting enough attention or emotional connection in their marriage and then they end up fugging the first guy that "listens" to them and sympathizes with them. For the women she "thinks" she has found what she is missing, and for the dirty a-hole who just stole your wife; he's just getting a free [censored] without the burden of being married to the woman, your wife.

With men, I think a lot of them stray becuase they aren't getting enough sex, or they are turned off their wives who basically ride them day and night and make their lives a misery - even if the "riding" is because of the man's shortcomings.
