Well I would not be caught dead in any church that teaches contrary to what the Bible says. And if a church taught how to explore with a partner who is not your spouse they would be doing just that.

didn't his post specifically state with your partner???

Yes and a partner can be a husband/wife or a girlfriend/boyfriend. If they taught the latter it would be against God's Word. That was my point.

That's fine by me Tim. But, if church is meant to be fostering healthy marriages, then how would you propose church deals with the issue of divorce when it deals with sex, sexual disfunction, cheating, etc, etc. Considering our current divorce rate in the country, I don't want to hear how they're currently approaching it or have in the past because to me it's not working.

Rick

I agree they should not turn away from those issues. They should be dealt with a talked about, I agree. But what I was trying to say was for them to teach anything other than what the Bible says on those issues would not be a church I would attend.

fair enough. i wonder at what point the church will have to start doing that though, or if we as a society will end up cycling back to even more conservative times.

Heres the best way I can see things.

Evil Is Sin
Sin Is Forgiven
So Sex Is In

In my mind, therein lies a major problem. As shown earlier in this post the bible points to some types of sex as bad and some types as good. To me that means there is allowable interpretation in everything. Actually, come to think of it, isn't every sermon the preachers own interpratation of the bible based on his education in that field? So, if we're to rely on church to guide us through these issues, why aren't they focusing on the positive messages about sexuality that are present in the bible? Wouldn't this be a step in the right direction to helping couples with these issues?

In light of your statement about not going against the bibles teachings which I can respect as your decision and interpretation, how do you approach the things that the bible does not teach? As great as a book as it is, it's like a constitution, not every single subject can ever be broached by one manual, it has to be built upon and grown. Where do you propose that we start teaching people about sexualtiy? To modern christians it seems to me that if it doesn't start out as handed down from the church, then it's automatically thrown out as evil pornographic propaganda. So, my question still stands, how should the church address this, if this is where you are going for your guidance on sexual issues?

Sex is like ice cream....

When it's good, it's great!

Well all I have to say is I definitely don't know everything about what the Bible says. In fact, I don't know much. But, the things I do know is what I try to live my life by. I can't say what I think the church should do other than teach what the Bible says and IMHO I believe the Bible is very clear on many issues we face today like sex outside of marriage. I'm not trying to prove anyone wrong or talk down to anyone, just explaining my point of view on what I can.
