The Church makes it sacred and evil because the Bible says it is only to be between and man and woman who are married to each other. Case closed. Thats what the Bible says and that is what most churches go by. It specifically says multiple times in the Bible that sex is not to be done before marriage or outside of marriage. It is called fornication.

Show me some scripture. I dare ya'

Gal 5:19-20
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,
NKJV

Eph 5:3-4
3 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;
NKJV

Col 3:5-6
5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
NKJV

I'm no bible scholar, but when I look at the bible passages you quoted, I have a very hard time finding an explicit, unmistakable prohibition against premarital sex. After all, the word "fornication" comes from the latin "fornicus," or brothel. Isn't it possible that the early Christians just meant to prohibit prostitution? Maybe they only meant you should respect marriage and be loyal to your spouse. Maybe they meant we should treat sex and marriage with awe and respect, and not be promiscuous.

The word in those quotes that arguably addresses pre-marital sex is â??fornication.â? How do we know that Jesus and his disciples meant the same thing by "fornication" that we do? One definition of fornication (according to my Webster's) is sex outside of marriage. But the meaning of words can change greatly over time (just read Shakespeare for plenty of examples). And much gets lost in translation. The original (Hebrew? Aramaic?) Bible has never been found, and we are really working with translations of translations at this point.

I am wary of today's Christians who show no humility whatsoever when it comes to interpreting the Bible. How can they all be so sure of their interpretation?! Maybe they are just projecting their own modern day values onto the Bible. The Bible is (mainly) a gentle message of God's eternal, all-encompassing love for humankind. And yet some cold, dark souls are bent on reading it as an indictment or a retraining order (or even a death warrant! Lots of bible-based doomsday cults, such as the Branch Davidians).

Jesus: "Oh my dear father! I have shared thy words with humankind. Verily, I have given them thy message of love. (OK, a little brimstone, too. Thee knows thy children can be unruly at times.) Alas, father, the very ones who shout out thy name most loudly are using thy words to cripple their hearts and to put fetters on their souls. They fling thy words at one another like daggers."

God: â??Well, you know I delegated the writing part to John and Luke and that whole Jerusalem posse. Oy, such a mess! If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself."
