Apparently 402 near sarnia goes down to 70!!!!!!

I got caught doing 125 in it.

however the cop was "nice" and put it down to a 80 posted.

anyways I'm worried about the impact on my insurance. 4 points (30-49km over)...

Ouch, I'll have to remember about that zone. Right when you get into sarnia?

Whenever i cross the border on my way to track events I usually end up crossing at Sarnia and even though I do not see many cops when I have crossed I tend to be VERY conscious of the fact that the cops may not like the look a speeding vehicle as you get anywhere near a border crossing.(even if it is a couple of KMs from the border.)
I will keep this spot in mind for my future crossings.

Sucks when it happens to you though.

Ouch Keith. This was in the rental I assume. Wonder if it makes it harder to tag you for the ticket? Probably not. I had a similar one myself in London doing 82 in what I thought was a 60. Turns out it was a school zone and drops to 50. Way out on Oxford before the new extention. Never saw it hit my insurance and the cop was less then nice about it. Dinged me the full amount. Was only 150 for the ticket though. Betting yours may be more.

If he dropped it to 80 then you should be okay.
10km over the limit.

Or do you mean he has you at 125 in an 80?

I've never heard of a cop upping the posted limit, only dropping the speed you were going.

Nope, speeding goes against your DL not the car Licence plate.

I think Keith means it this way:

Speed 125 km/h minus Posted 70 km/h = 55 km/h over

Speed 125 km/h minus Posted 80 km/h = 45 km/h over

*edit* 50 km/h over = Careless Driving and 6 points!

PS> Insurance will definitely go up, unless you haven't used up your one "freebie". I had a 10+ ticket that nudged a premium by a few bucks

if by "freebie" you mean no offences yet then no I haven't used it... And your breakdown was exactly what I ment.

I mean 125 for the thought 100 isn't bad, but apparently it dropped 80 then 70 really quick and I got caught. So I'm wondering if since its my first time and it was a 4 points 335 (30-49km over the limit) will my insurance be hit. It was a mistake more then a calculated risk, I thought I was still in the 100's not the 70's... you see my point?

thoughts?

Either way, there is a chance your insurance will be hit. Some policies don't have that "freebie". Others have one, or have some sort of convoluted method about them. You will have to see when your insurance renewal comes up. Sometimes, they will do abstract checks and speeding tickets will show up. If they do, that's when the company can either let it go, hike your rate, or drop you like a bad date.

The speed limit was 70. Ultimately it's up to you, the driver, to know what the speed limit is. "You thought" can easily be replaced with "You didn't look and assumed". Most likely, the cop knows that you did mistake it for the 100's and looked up your record when you handed over the licence to him. If you got the full speed, then those 6-points gets you a letter from the MTO, and I'm not sure what else now.

that ticket is a major offence and not a minor so its gonna affect your insurance more adversely. I do believe anything over 30 klicks is considered major..... Just hope your like me, i got a rash of three tickets in 6 months and had an accident last winter, but for some reason the insurance has actually dropped. Dont know why but im definetly not complaining.
