Thanks guys for the comments. I've been driving a rental ZX5 auto and, no offence Richard, but it's got no passion!!
I like my cars to make me feel good and this just ain't doing it for me.
A bit of background info: A couple of months ago I was driving into work on the 401 and the car just dies. I put the clutch in, restarted it and kept going. From that point though the car started ticking all the way into Scarboro. I dropped it off at the dealer and they quoted me $1,300 to take the cam covers off and replace whatever lifter was making the sound and they guessed, sticking. I said no and put some AC Delco Engine Oil Supplement in on the advice of Brad Hall and that quieted it right down and I never heard it since - next time I did hear something it was much louder and I had a feeling the worse happened and sure enough ...

Here are a few cars I test drove after hearing the ticking the first time (all mtx):
BMW 325i - what an awesome handling car - I really understood the 1st-rate reviews the 3 series always gets - no other car I've driven made me feel as "one" with it - they say German horses are stronger and I believe it - about the same as the SVT or a bit less
Mazda 6 V6 - disappointed - the clutch was almost like an on/off switch and the power felt worse than my SVT
Acura TSX - nice but again lacking in the power dept.
Legacy GT - wicked turbo rush in the mid-range that literally makes you feel a push to the seatback - with an exhaust and a chip I can really love this car even more
Mustang GT - nice V8 rumble, clutch was perfect - expected more from 300hp - more linear power delivery than the Legacy GT turbo
I'm sooo confused on what to do
