Yes, like everyone says, power the front speakers with your new amp. The rear door speaker position sucks badly and will cause your "sound stage" to be unbalanced. My front door speakers and two tweaters are powered (125 watts each) and the rears are just hooked up to run off the HU's amp (actually, I have it the balance set to near front) The ONLY scenario that works with powering the rears over the front is if you have REAR DECKLID speakers (like Grand Prix's, etc). Because the sound is produced above your head and to the rear of your ears, it completes the harmonics of the speakers much better= soround sound. Rear door speakers (especially in the position in the contours/mystique) are near worthless in improving your music sound and quality, they only help for the rear passengers. And if you are like many people, I rarely have people in my car, and even if I do... screw them, I want the music to sound the best for ME. Good luck on the install, should find tons of shops to do it for ya!

I have issues with one thing here, in specific, the surround sound comment. Most car audio systems (pretty much any without DVD capability) are stereo, not surround sound. Factory audio systems use speakers in rear locations only for rear passengers, who I don't care about at all.
Even if they are mounted rear deck, the sound is eminating from a point behind you which is out of place.
Not arguing or anything like that, just clearing up any possible misconception

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to say factory systems are "souround sound", more so, the rear decklid is utilized in a souround sound set-up. Just like a home entertainment theatre, if you are using a 5.1 or even 6.1 system, you configuration will include a subwoofer that is offset from your central location like the tv (trunk space in the car), a center channel directed from the tv (or dash board), and then you 4 remaining components speakers at 45 degrees in each direction JUST ABOVE your line of hearing (rear decklid being two of those spots and usually a q-form directing the front 2 at an extreme upward direction.)
No argue!

i'm confused. are you saying that rear deck speakers act like surround sound speakers, or are you saying that rear speakers are only useful in an actual 5.1 setup?
please clarify.

They are used in a car audio Souround Sound set-up (aftermarket) with the correct processor. And no, they are usefull regardless of how the speakers are utilized. What I am saying is an aftermarket soround sound system for a car will not have speakers installed in the rear doors.. only on the rear decklid if applicable.
Like Honkey said, factory audio systems who utilize the rear decklid for speakers are mostly there for the rear passengers benefit. But, it depends, some vehicles (take my old 2002 Regal for example) had the monsoon equiped audio package, where the rear decklid speakers where used as subs. Just depends really.
Conclusion... rear door speakers suck.

i asked because the ONLY application where rear speakers in a non-sub application will help is in an actual 5.1 system where a processor is used. otherwise, rear speakers, regardless of placement and design, will only pull your soundstage behind you.
any fill that you want from the rear will come via reflected sound from the fronts.
this knowledge is almost elementary in the field. i would have assumed that you, being MECP certified, would have known this.

thats why i initially asked you to clarify. which, unfortunately, your following post apparently did not.
so, i can safely assume that you agree with me then?

Yes, I agree with you.
When I said the decklid speakers were usefull regardless.. that was in comparison to rear door speakers.

Rear deck speakers in a 2 channel audio setup can work, but only in specific circumstances where the crossover point is quite low and the pathlength is similar to that of the front speakers.
