REMEMBER 1957?
The following were some comments made in the year 1957:
* * *
(4) "Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging a dime just to mail a letter?"
* * *
1957??? I'm not that old, but I remember when stamps went from 6 cents to 8 cents - I think it was around 1970.
I checked. Actually, it was 1971.

(10) "Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract for $75,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise me if someday that they will be making more than the President."
I don't think anyone said this in 1957.
In 1938, it was well publicized that Babe Ruth earned $80,000.00, which was substantially more than President Hoover. Reportedly when questioned as to how he could justify earning more than the President, Ruth replied "I had a better year".

OK
(5) "If they raise the minimum wage to $1, nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store."
Nobody in 1957 was worried that the government was going to raise the federal minimum wage to $1.00/hour. They had already done so the year before.

(11) "I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen appliances would be electric. They are even making electric typewriters now"
Someone who lived in a closet theoretically could have said this in 1957, but electric typewriters had been invented about a half century earlier and had been available since the early 1920's.
That would be roughly the equivalent of someone in the year 2012 saying, "Someone is actually making a computer that a person can purchase and use right in his own home".
