Pretty much the answer I expected. If you provide a few examples of "happy Iraqi" events the mainstream media actually missed, I might listen to the "evil liberal media" argument with a straight face. And I don't mean the "American soldier gives Iraqi boy a sandwich" type of stuff... I mean events that are as important as the negative ones.

There's a lot more than what the mainstream press is telling you. All you have to do is talk to soldiers who have actually been there.

So you're saying it was a lack of communication between the President and his PR staff. That's not much more comforting than the Prez knowing about it in the first place. It's a problem if the Prez is surprised by major messages his team sends out.

Considering what was going on at the time, the banner was a really minor detail that I'm sure wasn't something they were going to bother the president about and is only a big deal because people like you made it one by pissing and moaning about it. And continue to piss and moan about it.

I'm tired of arguing with the ignorant Bush haters...

I'll just let them rant.

Now that the election is over, it's pretty much pointless.

Talk about missing points... GEEZ!

How soon we forget that a major part in the WMD case for war was the discrepencies in Iraqs own declarations of what stockpiles of WMDs & the facilities they had. Iraq had it IN WRITING for all the world to see, yet so many CHOOSE to forget all about that, & even divert attention from it for their own political gain.

By Iraqs own admission these things existed. We invade - and because we find no WMDs they suddenly didn't exist. I think not. Those things were hidden or exported. The UNs own report about the radioactive yellowcake on stainless steel being recycled in europe, its conclusions, and the paper trail documented sources of that steel are all still being ignored - but they're on the record.

How 'bout we impeach the press for ignoring so many facts for so long. How 'bout we jail them for deliberately mis-leading the public & having a detrimental effect on the efforts of our boys in uniform - likely even being indirectly responsible for some of the deaths in Iraq & Afghanistan.

But to them, the election of 2000 is still being fought. The 2004 Election was just a bump.

Guys, the 2000 Election is over, get over it.

OK, everyone: Packrat is right. From now on, we should never discuss the conduct of an incumbent president. We should just let him do whatever he wants, and not even talk about whether it was right. If the president arguably commits an impeachable offense, or roasts babies on skewers, or whatever, we should just "get over it."

'Long as they're democrat babies - OK.

Speaking of elections, it's amazing how one's attitude changes when the outcome is different.

Quote:

"There is no such thing as a perfect election," Democratic attorney Kevin Hamilton said last week. "There are always lots of little mistakes. That doesn't invalidate an election."

Recap: The 2004 Washington governor's race was very close, and the Democrats insisted on recounts until their candidate won. They have found almost 1000 questional votes in (surprise!) a Democratic stronghold county. The Republicans have sued for either their candidate to be declared winner or for a new election. This is what a stolen election looks like.

So far I've talked to 3 people (1 soldier, 2 cilivians) who were in Iraq. They have stories of morale boosting, improving relations with the locals, etc... but a lot of it was one-on-one, playing baseball with the kids, etc. Important but not as critical as ongoing stories about the formation of the government, daily suicide bombings, etc.

As for your second paragraph, if Clinton had held a press conference in Sarajevo on day 2 of that campaign with a banner saying the same thing, I'm sure you'd be OK with someone telling you "he didn't have time to worry about it." This is typical of the "it's not an issue because we say it's not an issue" strategy I frequently see.

Further, I don't know what you mean by "people like me." As I've posted before I'm moderate on most issues - voted against Clinton both times BTW - so grouping me into whatever category suits your needs might simplify things for you, but might lead to a few surprises down the road.

You think that the most rigidly controlled, hard-driving, well-funded, and ruthless administration in history is not capable of exerting whatever influence is necessary to manipulate the content of U.S. government intelligence assessments? How innocent your world must be. You believe in unicorns, too?

Caltour, do you wear a tinfoil hat, too? I can, from FIRST-HAND KNOWLEDGE tell you that the intel was not manipulated. I have not been in the Marines for over 7 years now, during my stay I was one of ten different intel officers who had to sign-off on briefings that were headed to the White House. Once signed off, the briefings were reclassified in the system, and the paper copy was sealed for delivery.

So, you're telling me that somehow the current sitting President twisted someones arm to make them lie on these reports? I was signing off on reports 10 years ago making a case for war in Iraq, did President Bush twist my arm back then too? God I wish they would declassify some of these documents -- it'd shut you up quickly, as I know for a fact that many of the points you are making are completely false. Of course, declassifing some of these documents would only endanger active intel roles in the Middle East -- but maybe that's what you want?

Frankly, you have no clue what you are talking about -- go grab some McD's, sit back in your lazyboy, and enjoy the freedoms that the men on the frontlines are upholding. Let the guys who know whats going on do the work. Until you are willing to a) put your ass on the line, or b) put your skills to good use for our country -- I could care less what you have to say, its just mindless, uninformed conspiracy BS.
