I was in the store today looking at oil. I looked at Mobil 1 at $4.77 a qt I had it in my hand. This other synthetic 5W-30 just kept getting my attention it is called Mag 1 it is almost $2.00 less then Mobil 1. I decided that I wouldn't buy any oil today I wanted to come back and see if any on you have heard about or have a opinion about this oil. If not maybe I'll use it anyway and keep everyone updated on how it works. Maybe I could save some of us a little money.

I personally have not heard of Mag 1. But I use Mobil 1 5w30 Synthetic in my Tour and it works great.

Yeah, I learned that just because it says synthetic doesn't mean it is. Some companies sued for the right to deceive us or soemthing like that, but don't cut corners on oil changes, not even near worth it...

Castrol was sued by Mobil when they (Castrol) started claiming their Group III hydrocracked oils were "synthetic". Their reasoning was that since the oil was so highly modified from its original form, it was indistinguishable from a true synthetic and they should be allowed to call it synthetic. Mobil disagreed. Unfortunately, Mobil lost and now EVERY oil company has a "synthetic" for sale.
For the record, the only TRUE synthetic oils (Group IV) are Mobil 1, AMSOIL, Royal Purple, and Red Line, along with a small handful of boutique oils that are either very expensive or relatively hard to find. All the others are Group III mineral oils.
(BTW, this doesn't make them bad oils...on the contrary, most are very high quality...they're just not true synthetics)
As for the "Mag 1" oil, it's apparently made by Warren Distribution of Cleveland, a private label re-bottler. Is it any good?...damned if I know...there isn't much info available on it. If it's cheap enough, it might be a good value for vehicles that see light duty;

Maybe it's me, but I swear you can feel a little extra speed using Mobil 1 over the older dyno oils.

Synthetics lubricate better than partials or dino oils.
But you won't feel it.
Its the "I washed my car and it feels faster" feelings.
Mobil 1 has ben proven by many people to be a very good, long lasting oil.
For me, nothing will ever go in my car.
