Although true, its not as if ALL 5.0 Mustangs were mid 14 second cars. There are tons of different combos from the factory. A stock 5.0 AOD Convertible car is a mid-high 15 second car, etc etc.....the cars that typically made it into the 14s are the bare bones 5spd LXs..

I may be wrong, but I think even an '89 5.0 GT was barely factory rated in the high 14's.
5.0 Stangs, whether GT or LX have a tone of potential, it simply wasn't tapped from factory, something to do with people actually wanting to be able to afford the insurance ratings.
not really true most 87-93 stangs were mid 14's right off the showroom floor....easliy pull 14.6@97">14.6@97</a> mph bone stcok....i've owned several and all of them ran 14's stock....even a stock 94-95's are quite capable of running <a href="mailto:14.8@94 mph as well....now bump the timimg, and do a silencer/k&n,and a fresh tune and they are capable of mid to low 14's easily...
my 95 runs 14.1-14.2's all day long with only gears and a few bolt ons(long tube headers, exhaust,tb,maf, pullies)
