You could also check your system. If you have a separate reciever, you could set up the speaker distances differently. I had mine set wrong and when I adjusted them the voices were fine.
I have the original VHS tapes somewhere, I also have the remastered tapes. I have only Episode II on DVD, because I heard about said complete installment to go on sale.
The problems with ANH don't have anything to do with the original recording method. They are because of the piss poor remastering process. Watch the dvd and you'll understand.
