Gear is stripped. Mine did the same. You can close it by taking the upper console off, taking the motor off (3 screws) and cranking it shut via the brass colored spline gear sticking out of the roof with a pair of pliers (put some tape or a thin rag over the metal gear so you don't hurt it).
