Maybe Im dumb about this but I dont see how 2.5 heads could affect the bearings. What am I missing?

2.5L do not have as good as oil drainback as the 3.0L heads, and oil gets 'trapped' in the heads and can starve the bottom end under certain circumstances.

You didn't.
You both are calling them a 3L pan and you both are right.
However you both are being far to vague.
The pan todras is talking about is the 3L Duratec pan for the Taurus.
The 3L Duratec pan you are talking about is for the Escape/Tribute.
Both are technically 3L oil pans. It's just one of them is also the latest revision for the 2.5L Duratec in the CDW-27 platform.

Thanks for the edumication captain obvious. I know what causes bearings to spin. However, when it comes to the Duratec engine, there are two philosophies ... I subscribe to the one less believed.
If it where an oiling issue, you could spin a bearing driving it home from the dealership or shortly thereafter. Yet, time and time again, these bearings are being spun with many miles (>20,000 miles) on the clock. Funny how that works!
Anyone heard of a spun bearing with less than 20,000 miles on the engine?
