tonight i spun a bearing on my 3L hybrid

it still runs and has decent power....knocks like crazy though. i just drove it home, gonna have to pull it and tear it down

my new plans are going the oval port route, with a homemade turbo setup, now that i got a mtx.

the 3L had about 10K on it, FULL REBUILD, 1mm oversize pistons, balanced, clevite 77 rod bearings, DMD. mobil 1 5w-30 full synthetic, original 2.5L oil pan

this just proves anything with the 2.5L heads are very prone to spinning bearings

How many miles TOTAL on the engine? I tend to subscribe to Terry's theory on PM Rod stretch.

no knocking here, but how much experience do you have building motors? Is there anything you had any question on or that you can think maybe was a prob? I am getting ready to build my 3L...it just seems so few miles to spin a bearing...

it was the first motor i built BUT i had a very expierenced engine builder standing over my shoulders and guiding me through the process and going over everything. the motor was built perfectly

I disagree.

There could be numerous other factors at play.

Might want to compare your 2.5 liter oil pan to a 3 liter oil pan out of a 2003 escape.....Thats the one i used for my 3 liter hybrid....Im running the same set up as the motor you blew, only i kept the stock 3 liter pistons (only 5000 miles) and bearings....And i used the 3 liter oil pan. There is a noticable diffrence in the baffles in the pan...lookings like a better peice of equipment...I ahve 17000 miles on this motor now.. .All are HARD miles...no problems.

Im not saying that could make all the diffrence, but it may be a contributing factor to your motor blowing.

Good luck with the rebuild.
