The problem is we even bother to "capture" terrorists. How about simply shooting them? How is it one second these pos' are shooting at our soldiers and the next putting up their hands and saying, "opps sorry I surrender now?" They were just trying to kill YOU seconds ago. Reciprocate! Save us the trouble of incarcerating them. They are not wartime combatants, they are terrorists and geneva rules should not apply to them. The time is long past for coddling these people.

Since when have the people at Gitmo been charged with a crime? At what point did they all become terrorists? Do you have some insight as to what each of them specficially did to receive that label, or is this another blanket statement with no facts behind it?

Intel, my friend. Its the way you win a war against an entrenched enemy.

The simple fact that they were in a war-zone, most had weapons on/around them, and many were captured during combat. The fact is, if they're "so innocent" then it should be easy to prove for them, and they'd be out by now. Of course, if we can link you to suspicious travel, or militant groups then it makes that a bit harder. You seem to be under the guise that we simply incarcerate people for the hell of it. God I'm glad we don't rely on your logic to keep us safe.

Now from the article:

Quote:

The summaries of FBI interviews, obtained by the American Civil Liberties Union as part of an ongoing lawsuit, include a dozen allegations that the Koran was kicked, thrown to the floor or withheld as punishment. One prisoner said in August 2002 that guards had "flushed a Koran in the toilet" and had beaten some detainees.

When did an allegation become proof, 18psi2300? Seems you're grasping at straws again.

Eh, typical response.

What do you suggest we do with the 'detainees' at Gitmo?

The fact that he is from Canada and is criticizing the United States is what Canada has to do with this. IMHO compared to Canda we still have our dignity.

'Scuse me, I see it a bit differently. They're not citizens of the US or even criminals & shouldn't be given the privileges of citizenship. They're enemy combatants and have no right to due process under US laws that are in place to protect the rights of US citizens.

Their capture & detention is a military matter & subject to the military system. Since they are not part of a military force that is associated with a particular nation-state that is a signatory of the Convention, they don't get those privileges either. There are other guidelines on how they are to be classified & treated, & none of the media seems to acknoledge that.

We have our share of turds, as does any country - even Canada. Overall, the Canadian people I've grown up with, dated, known, & otherwise met have typically been good people. The current political climate has generated some un-needed friction across the border, but that will pass.
