Of course! That's why my computers are always broken.

Regarding tinkering: I'm more of a computer tinkerer than a car tinkerer myself. However, after all this time, PCs are starting to loose their appeal, and my busted car is calling to me to learn more about it, a piece at a time.

On the PC side: I run Windows, Mac OS X and Linux systems, and am well versed and have been troubleshooting and repairing them for a living for a while now. If anyone in the greater New Haven, CT area is interested in learning how to run their Windows PCs securely (removing and preventing spyware, etc.), or switching to Linux, feel free to PM me.

Also, anyone familiar with integrating their 'Tour with PC technology (passenger seat laptops, or whatever) feel free to drop me a line. I'm intetested in seeing how I can merge a technology I'm familiar with ('puters) with one I'm willing to admit I'm a noob at (my car).

should i take it to my mechanic?

im pretty worried since i dont have the money to buy a new car.

A multitude of things on an engine can start clicking, and are not worth worring about:
*Fuel Injectors - some make loud noises some don't
*Lifters - A bad/collapsed lifter will allow for the rocker to slap a little, prolly not worth spending the money to fix unless you want to really want to strip the motor down.
*Timing Chains/tensioners
*Valves
*and of-course the all-too-familiar-around-here spun bearing rod knock = get a new motor

I'm sure there are more, but this is all I can think of off hand, all of these will get faster and possibly louder with increases in RPM's, a spun bearing is not only one that demands immediate attention, but you'll know rod knock if you have it; if it sounds like the motor is ready to rip itself apart, you have rod knock.

I hear you. My computers are behaving themselves right now, perhaps because I've been preoccupied with my car. Slashdevnull; sent ya a PM about PCs!

And speaking of clicking noises, folks, would anything you've ever encountered make a noticable clattering until the engine warmed up, and then virtually disappear? I mean, oil starvation to a valve? That seemed to be the consensus among the mechanics at a local garage around here, but their repair didn't fix diddly.

Are spun bearings caused by oil starvation? This is a noob question, but I'm a noob!

Try running a can of Gunk Engine Flush in your car after it's warm for about 10 mins right before your next oil change. DO NOT DRIVE ANYWHERE WITH THIS STUFF IN YOUR OIL, just let the car idle! If you have a crud build-up preventing oil from getting to a lifter, this tuff will clean it out.
