A multitude of things on an engine can start clicking, and are not worth worring about: *Fuel Injectors - some make loud noises some don't *Lifters - A bad/collapsed lifter will allow for the rocker to slap a little, prolly not worth spending the money to fix unless you want to really want to strip the motor down. *Timing Chains/tensioners *Valves *and of-course the all-too-familiar-around-here spun bearing rod knock = get a new motor
I'm sure there are more, but this is all I can think of off hand, all of these will get faster and possibly louder with increases in RPM's, a spun bearing is not only one that demands immediate attention, but you'll know rod knock if you have it; if it sounds like the motor is ready to rip itself apart, you have rod knock.
