Alright guys. I have a question for you. I am on my girlfriends computer and she has spyware up the whazoo. I can tell because she gets 3,000 pop-ups per web site, and she has wierd things going on with her computer. You guys helped me with my compuer problems, maybe you can help with hers. Apparently she must have some sort of spyware that keeps her from running antispyware programs. I can't even download any of them or I can't run any of the ones that are downloaded. All of the others are fine. I was curious if you guys new anything about this ...

thanks,

steve

when that is the case one of the best things you can do is just clean the harddrive and reinstall everything. Make sure you back up everything you want to keep. THen when things are reinstalled put spybot search and destroy (downloads.com)on it right away and run it once a week.

Unhook the internet connection first.
You need to start her computer, hit F8 until the boot menu appears and choose safe mode. Once it's up and running go to start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system restore>settings. In here turn off system restore or else after you're done cleaning you re-infect the computer. Go to add/remove programs in the control panel and remove anything that you you think looks suspect. In safe mode you should be able to run your scans. Scan with at least 2 different programs, 3 if you really want to be safe. There is no one program that catches everything so one is not enough.
Restart and see what happens. Don't forget to turn system restore back on.

You can restart, then hit F8 as it is booting. Start it in safe mode. Then try installing the programs. If that doesn't work, try the System Restore method mentioned above. Afterwards, gets Spayware Blaster to prevent any of that crap from getting on there.

Multibootable CD, with the best Winternals, PowerQuest and Symantec have to

________________________________________________________________________________

Instructions:

If your OS fails, you lose or damage a partition, a password, or any of the
number of other types of crash or downtime occur - don't panic.

Place this CD in your CD drive and restart, you will get a multi-feature menu
that offers the following repair, partitioning, test, and Image recovery options.

________________________________________________________________________________

Menu Items: (Please NOTE new menu selection for boot options different from
previous versions.)

Multibootable CD, with the best Winternals, PowerQuest & Symantec have to offer!

NOTE:
There are several version of Winternals ERD Commander included so that both
newer and older Operating systems are covered - where a version may not boot
an older OS - e.g. booting Win98 with 2003 V4.2 won't work but using 2002 V.300
will boot that older OS or system.

1. Winternals ERD Commander 2002 V. 300 will let you boot into a Windows GUI to do
emergency repairs, reset passwords, access a network etc from a PC where the OS
might not be able to start at all. When booting from it, it does look like
it's loading Windows XP, which it is in a way - since ERD is based 99.9% on
Windows XP PE, a stripped down version of Windows XP.

2. Winternals ERD Commander 2002 V. 301 will let you boot into a Windows GUI to do
emergency repairs, reset passwords, access a network etc from a PC where the OS
might not be able to start at all. When booting from it, it does look like
it's loading Windows XP, which it is in a way - since ERD is based 99.9% on
Windows XP PE, a stripped down version of Windows XP.

3. Winternals ERD Commander 2003 V. 400 will let you boot into a Windows GUI to do
emergency repairs, reset passwords, access a network etc from a PC where the OS
might not be able to start at all. When booting from it, it does look like
it's loading Windows XP, which it is in a way, since ERD is based 99.9% on
Windows XP PE, a stripped down version of Windows XP.

4. Winternals ERD Commander 2003 V. 410 will let you boot into a Windows GUI to do
emergency repairs, reset passwords, access a network etc from a PC where the OS
might not be able to start at all. When booting from it, it does look like
it's loading Windows XP, which it is in a wau - since ERD is based 99.9% on
Windows XP PE, a stripped down version of Windows XP.

5. Winternals ERD Commander 2003 V. 420 will let you boot into a Windows GUI to do
emergency repairs, reset passwords, access a network etc from a PC where the OS
might not be able to start at all. When booting from it, it does look like
it's loading Windows XP, which it is in a way - since ERD is based 99.9% on
Windows XP PE, a stripped down version of Windows XP.

NOTE:
For similar reasons as to the inclusion of several versions of Winternals ERD
so also are several versions of NTFS DOS and NTFS Check included (to cover
older hardware/BIOS etc)

6. Winternals NTFS-DOS Pro 3.12 enables you to access NTFS partitions from DOS,
(Type NTFSPRO at the A:\ prompt, and it will give you the options)

7. Winternals NTFS-DOS Pro 4.03 enables you to access NTFS partitions from DOS,
(Type NTFSPRO at the A:\ prompt, and it will give you the options)

8. Winternals NTFS-DOS Pro 5.00 enables you to access NTFS partitions from DOS,
(Type NTFSPRO at the A:\ prompt, and it will give you the options)

9. Winternals NTFS-CHK 1.12 will check your NTFS partitions for errors.
(Type NTFSCHK at the A:\ prompt, and it will give you the options)

A. Winternals NTFS-CHK 4.00 will check your NTFS partitions for errors.
(Type NTFSCHK at the A:\ prompt, and it will give you the options)

B. Winternals NTFS-CHK 5.00 will check your NTFS partitions for errors.
(Type NTFSCHK at the A:\ prompt, and it will give you the options)

C. Symantec Ghost 8.0.0.984 Corporate Edition, needs no explanation I think,
this is the basic version, no extra drivers loading.
(Note one thing, after you hit C, you have to hit any key to boot Ghost, just
like if you were booting of a Windows 2000/XP CD, if you don't,
it will boot into Windows after 5 sec).

D. Symantec Ghost 8.0.0.984 Corporate Edition with USB 1.1 drivers loading.
(Note one thing, after you hit D, you have to hit any key to boot Ghost, just
like if you were booting of a Windows 2000/XP CD, if you don't,
it will boot into Windows after 5 sec).

E. Symantec Ghost 8.0.0.984 Corporate Edition with USB 2.0 drivers loading.
(Note one thing, after you hit E, you have to hit any key to boot Ghost, just
like if you were booting of a Windows 2000/XP CD, if you don't,
it will boot into Windows after 5 sec).

F. Symantec Ghost 8.0.0.984 Corporate Edition with FireWire drivers loading.
(Note one thing, after you hit F, you have to hit any key to boot Ghost, just
like if you were booting of a Windows 2000/XP CD, if you don't,
it will boot into Windows after 5 sec).

G. Symantec Ghost 9.0.0.000. New to this CD, this will basically run as it does on
the original Ghost install CD. Note this version will only let you RESTORE,
but not CREATE an IMAGE. To make an image with version 9.0 you will have to
install the full version of Ghost 9 which I have included on this CD. Look in the
"NORTONGHOST900" folder, there is also a KEYGEN in that folder to make a
serial for same.
Note, Ghost 9.0 is based on Windows XP PE just like ERD X.XX. (NEW)

H. This a the good old classic Windows 98SE boot floppy, standard issue,
except I added SmartDrive.

I. PowerQuest PartitionMagic 8.02, DOS version.

J. Norton PartitionMagic 8.05, DOS version. (NEW)

r. Reboots your PC

________________________________________________________________________________

If you don't hit any keys, it will boot first hard drive after 30 sec
________________________________________________________________________________

Non Boot Stuff:

FinalData Enterprise 2.0.1.1028

Which is probably THE BEST data
recovery program available, it can be run from within either of the Winternals
ERD Commanders, simply navigate to the filder where it resides on the CD using the
explorer like GUI, and run the FinalData.exe, first time you start it up Winternals
will warn it's not part the "package", simply ignore and run anyway. FinalData will
ask for a serial, you can either run the keygen included, or if you are a lazy sod,
grab one of the 5 I included in the SERIAL.TXT file. Once you have found your lost
data, you will either have to drop it on another partition, or dumb it over a
network which ERD Commander has created for you, that is if you have another
PC available.

One more thing, 3 password hackers, all made by Rixler Software, they are
as follows:

Rixler Software Internet Explorer Password Revealer 1.0.01
Rixler Software Network And Dial Up Password Revealer 1.0.0.1
Rixler Software Outlook Express Password Revealer 1.0.0.1

All 3 are lodated in the Rixler folder, they are "standalones" and can be run from
Windows, wont run from ERD.
