I wasn't talking about WWII. The Cold War ended roughly 15 years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if Europeans' attention spans are that small, but you'd think they'd at least remember that without America's nuclear umbrella, the USSR would have invaded, or at least attempted to invade, most of Europe.

Still a world war 2 leftover and to say that we were over there protecting them 15 or 20 years ago is an over-simplification when in reality our presence was self-serving. Any protection they may have felt was merely a by-product of our need to have the strategic location.
