If you really want to see us as the world sees us, you have to live overseas for awhile. My wake-up call happened in London, where some locals (even those who liked the U.S.) told me that they fear the U.S. more than any other country because we seem bent on militarism and the use of force, which they think could lead to another global war or a nuclear launch.

Amazing, coming from Europe. Funny how they didn't seem to mind our militarism when it kept the Soviets from taking over the European and Asian continents. If Europeans really think that we would be the instigators of a global and/or nuclear war, then they are much more stupid than I previously thought.

I have to go to bed. Someone else tell Davo that the Cold War is over. Tell him the Euros actually appreciated the counterbalance we provided to the Soviets, but that they think the present circumstances are a little different.

They also fear our ability to change the climate so that the gulf stream (which makes English weather like Oregon's, despite England's high latitude) disappears and English weather becomes "rather Alaskan" as one fellow put it.

I had no reaction to this other than laughter.

caltour, I hope you're talking out of your ass here, and not offering any kind of real scope into the mentality of Europeans. God help them if they believe any of the things you've talked about here.

Oh, and somebody dig up one of those polls the media are forever telling us about, in which Northern Europeans express great fear about global warming, and point their fingers at us because we treat fossil fuels the way teenagers treat firewood at a bonfire.
