Davo, why are just assuming that DeLay's activities were not illegal? Like DeLay's lawyers (and some media outlets), you have spun the story as if the investigation is complete, and it exonerated DeLay. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, the investigation uncovered more potentially illegal acts.

Here is perhaps the most interesting part:

"The revised filings also for the first time list a debt of $121,456 from ARMPAC's regulated campaign account to a separate ARMPAC account that took in unregulated donations in those years.

Jan Baran, a Republican lawyer who specializes in campaign law, said the listing of this debt evidently means that ARMPAC improperly used unregulated campaign contributions to finance certain expenses during those years and now must pay that sum back to comply with the rules."


This thing isn't over yet. As you can see from the article, there is a final audit report, and perhaps an investigation by counsel yet to come.
