<S> Rex.
May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Good Lord, that's one post I do remember well. My fingers are still bleeding from trying to keep up with all the lines cast out in that one...
Godspeed; he was a fun one to duel with. I'm quite honored and humbled that I managed to provide some measure of entertainment (and maybe some measure of aggrivation) to such an individual.
I have a dinner this weekend, so rest assured I'll raise a glass and toast his name even though I only knew him through his correspondance here. My grandfather (mother's father) was a WWII vet as well (navigator on a B-17 that flew out of East Anglia) and passed on to skies unknown over a decade ago; his tutelage on all things left a large impression on me.
Regardless of political stripes, most WWII vets hold a special place in my heart and mind and his absence makes the world a lesser place to live in.
Here's to hoping Major Barnes and his better half have met again to continue their lifelong affair in more peaceful and serene surroundings.

very, very well said.
call me a romantic, but there is something very sad yet special about an old man who can't go on after his wife passes.

If I told my grandma about "the web" she'd proabably go get her broom and start looking in the corners of the ceiling for a spider-web to remove. Rex sounds like a hell f a guy. RIP.
