What I did and a lot of other have done is take the cover that comes with eht speaker for exposed mounting situations and place that BEHIND the speaker. It then acts as a spacer AND as a template for the speaker mounting holes.

I have 6x9's up front and 6x8's in the back, but you can do this with threars to, you just need to modify the door pull bracket on the back doors when you do this, but it's as easy as piss.

If you cut a 1/4" plywood spacer, you will be fine.

You can kinda see my rear speaker in this pic...



I used a jig saw with a metal blade to open up the hole. I also had to cut a little out of the rear handle bracket thingie.

BTW, those are Infinity 693.3i's. They have a MASSIVE basket on the back of them.

I ran Pioneer TS-906 (IIRC, they have been in there awhile) with about 1/8" of clearance between the magnet and the glass.

All that was needed was some cutting, no spacers necessary.

Those look exaclty like the ones I have. Can you give me a full how-to on how you did yours?
