i'd put them in the panels that are already in the interior (maybe even behind them, and install a couple cooling fans). or, maybe create a false floor to put them in.

behind the existing panels is not an option. There simply is no room behind them. Maybe, MAYBE for a small 2 channel for the sub, nothing more. On the left hand side you have the control computer for the 4WD system, on the right is the stock smplifier, which will be removed but still doesn't look promising. And that still leaves me with no space for a 4 channel.
False floor is a possibility, however, it'll make the back area higher than the rest when the seats are down...

you could also mount them above those wheelwells.

Yeah, but again, i'd be worried about stuff sliding around and crashing into them. I carry lots of boxes, buckets tools, tool boxes, ladders even...If i mount them there, i'd have to build some sort of box around them and that = less space for me to carry what i have to carry.
The only other solutino i could think of is tint the back windows completely black, cut/mount some wood there and use that. It's alot more work, and i'd prefer not to lose the visibility as well.
Floor space is very important for me.

i would think a mdf or plywood amp rack would protect it well and add no more than 1" to the depth.
