I agree, it wasn't a small fire when it first started, and they took their sweet time putting it out. And who puts out an engine fire from the inside!!

On another note, cars do burn REALLY fast- I saw one catch fire at a gas station once. The ANSOL system came on, put it out, and then, since it was dripping gas under the car, it caught back up. The whole car was ingulfed next to a pump, with the nozzle still in the cars filler. By the time the fire department arrived, which was about 1 1/2 min, the thing was ruined.

Why not? The tape shows that the guy waited until the fire really got going before he decided to use the extinguisher (assuming it was his). I'd expect the insurance company to ask him about that at least. Also, they'd probably have an issue with the mods to begin with.

just because youre a scared moron doesnt mean you have committed fraud. you dont have to try to put the fire out yourself, its dangerous. theres a million and one excuses he could come up with. the only way i see that they might nail him is if they can scientificly prove that he started the fire or if they depose him and slips up. and the mods doesnt mean anything. they might not cover them but that doesnt mean you cant mod your car, even if caused the fire. as long it was an accident.

Are you sure about the mod bit? I'd be surprised if there wasn't some clause in every contract that says something like "does not cover loss due to improperly installed aftermarket parts" or something.

As for the extinguisher, it would have almost been better if he didn't try to put it out at all. He could have then said he didn't have one in the car, and couldn't find one nearby.

Who knows, though. I'm just talking out of my arse at this point.

as with home insurance or any other. if you do faulty wiring or something, on accident, its not enough to not pay up. of course, some states could have specific statutes for this, but i doubt it. its just plain negligence, which is the very reason we have insurance.

If i didnt have anything to put the fire out with i would have at least closed the doors in hopes that the fire would choke out due to the lack of oxygen. May be a far stretch but leaving the doors wide open was kinda pointless.
