I'll bet a heat gun was involved. Long and labor-intensive, that's for sure. That looks sweet Chris. I wonder how it'd look on a black car, care to let me try them this weekend?

Should look pretty sweet on the car Chris. Also looks quite a bit like the difference between the 00 and 01 Mustang lights (duh )
Just out of curiousity, how long did it take to get the assembly apart? back together? right?

Forkin' Sweet! How in the world did you get the lens off? And what color paint did you use? It looks like gunmetal and that is SOOOO cool!

Keep up the good work.

Removing the cover required LOTS of cutting. You basically go into this job thinking you are going to need some new ones. I even scoped out eBay and found some stockers for $30 just in case

It appears that there is some heafty glue holding the two pieces together.

I toasted a few differant Dremel bits before I found the right one to carve. It is then put back together with black silicone.

--Louis, I tried the heat gun thing, then I got scared that I would melt the plastic.

--Rara, the total cutting time was about 1.5 hours just for the first one. I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but I couldn't go back!

--Toadster, what do you mean by "halo" lights?

Check out my site for more pictures. When the second one is done, later tonight, I will post pictures of them on the car. AND a How-To (Not for the faint of heart.)

Thanks for the comments,

Thats tight! Sounds like something I would do maybe i'll get a second set from a junkyard, buy carbonfiber film and let er rip. Anyone think the heat from the lenses would effect the carbonfibwer film?

I don't thinkn you would have to worry about the heat from the headlights. One thing you would want ot take into consideration, though, is the UV from the sun might cause that film to detieriorate over a year or so. The vinyl I had on them before on the outside was pretty messed up from 3 years of wear and tear. I wouldn't want to have to redo that every year or so.
