I don't want to be a drag but I'm curious about those who've done this. Are you OK with it or do you wish you hadn't done it? I know Stazi and NorMich99SE are alright with their's. I'm about ready to open mine up but I guess I just need alittle bit more reassurances.
So, of all who have opened the vent, do any of you wish you'd left it alone?
Water is my only concern.

Water isn't an issue Tom, honestly and truthfully and when you see the heat pour out of there (ou can see the heat convection mirage) you and your engine will be glad you did it.

I can understand the occasion light summer shower but today (Saturday), it's been raining almost all day....anywhere from a "pull to the side of the road" downpour to a steady rain. I know the vent is full of water. I wonder what all that water and more just sitting in and around the UIM would do?

are you forgetting the entire underside of the front end of the car is open. The front part of the car through the radiator is open -
Its not an issue as long as the plugs arnt submerged and the air filter is not in standing water.

When you guys opened it up did you just leave a hole there or did you put some sort of screen in the hole? If you put a screen in there how did you mount it?

How did you mount the screen in the hood? I think I am going to try and get enough courage to do this. I just need to figure out how to mount the screen.

Josh said he fastened from the inside. I don't remember what he said he used but I'll probably used JB Weld. I used that when I did  this and it's holding up fine. I'm just wondering about being able to reach the opening from the inside because of the inner shell.

There must be something you can put on the rear side of the opening mechanism to protect it from being opened through the vent.
Having a functional vent should be worth the extra bother.
