I just read from a webpage saying that adding some ATF into the gas tank will improve the gas mileage. Because the ATF will help clean the engine and lube the fuel pump. it that true ? just wondering

Umm the gas tank! NO! It is fine to add some to your oil. It will act as a detergent cleaning valve deposits etc. I wouldn't run it long before doing an oil change.

I 2nd what todras just said. Never in the gas, but yeah exactly as he said it has some detergents in it which will clean off some buildup in the engine. When I had my FD I would run some every so often to help fight buildup. Although it's a bit different in a rotary engine as by design they burn oil (it's injected into the combustion chamber), but the effect is all the same on a piston engine.

if you want stuff to go in your gas tank, get seafoam....then you can also throw some in your crank case as well.

i don't think it's a good idea - it can kill oxygen sensors\catalyst.

Around 500 miles? Or less, say 50-100?
