On one hand, I don't like it -- but on the other, 99% of those breeds are absolutely bred for violence as gaurd dogs and let loose in urban neighborhoods. Walking by a couple pit-bulls in my area scare the [censored] out of me and I'm not surprised it hasn't jumped over the fence to eat me.
I've seen some video's too of how some of those handlers 'train' the dogs ... extremely inhumane .. no wonder those dogs turn out the way they do.
There is NO SUCH THING AS A VICIOUS BREED, ONLY BAD TRAINING.
Oh please, spare me the PC.

If it's really as serious as they are making it out to be...license people to own these "dangerous" breeds. That would potentially weed out alot of trash & make owners aware of the capabilities of these dogs. I think breeders of these breeds should also have to pass a rigid screening. Noone that has an arrest record showing any kind of violence should be an owner of any dog period. Don't blame the animals...

I used to think punishing the breed was the right thing to do. Not anymore.
I say transfer criminal responsibly to the dog owner. Simple as that.
Your dogs bites someone, you're charged with assault. Why should it be any other way? Can't handle your dog? Maybe you shouldn't own one then....

Apply it to all dogs then. I know some vicious ankle biters thaty could use a little training. Including the one that bit my pit bull on the nose last July.

Unfortunately its not quite that simple either. Dogs do not necessarily know right from wrong the same way people do.
If a little kid is pulling the tail of a dog all day, and that dog finally is fed up and takes a bite at the kid, who should be at fault here? Clearly the owners of the kid for supervisional issues, however we know that will never happen.

Oh please, spare me your ignorant prattle. Dogs respond to training and conditioning. If you raise any dog to "be mean" or simply do not care for the dog as the animal should be cared for, he could be a biter. If a any dog is incorrectly handled, he could easily "turn" on someone. For years, my mom wanted a cocker spaniel. We had owned many dogs, including a Doberman, a Blue Heeler and many mutts. She finally got her Cocker Spaniel and a friend's little boy was tugging on his ears trying to kiss him. The dog felt threatened and bit the boy. Are Cocker Spaniels a "dangerous breed"? No. I have had friends and neighbors with minature dogs that have been more badly behaved that any large dog I have been around. Why? Becuase the little dogs get away with behavior that would not be tolorated from a larger dog. But bad behavior is bad behavior and only the owners are to blame.
I have neighbors that leave their dogs in the back yard and other than feeding them, the only interaction they get is when the owner yells out the back window for the dog to "shut up". That is damn poor dog ownership. My dog plays well with other dogs and does well with kids. He does have a tendency to knock them down becuase the doofus is only a year old and still has his puppy enthusiasm. He has no idea that he is 60 pounds of muscle, bone and slobber.

That ankle biter doesn't weigh 75 lbs and break bones with it's jaws.

Problem #1, people are retarded when it comes to these 'vicious' dog breeds. I'm have gone through this when I adopted my dobie. UNEDUCATED people think ALL Doberman's are 'vicious'. 95% of the people who own these 'vicious' dogs EDUCATE themselves about their dogs and TRAIN THEM PROPERLY! Its the 5% of IGNORANT owners who want the dog 'because its a cool dog' and for the 'fear factor' of owning said dog. People are currently discriminated against because of their breed of dog they own. Some home owners insurance companies will cancel your policy if you own a 'vicious' dog. If this is the case then.. All blacks are criminals All hispanics are illegal immigrants All white people are racist Originally posted by ODC: They're about to do this in BC as well. Any dog can break bones with it's jaws. Pit bulls have no stronger bite than any other breed. 75 lbs is large for a pit bull. A "proper pit bull" wieghs between 40-60 pounds. They have been tending to breed larger over the last 150 years as Americans tend to like "larger dogs" The pregenitors to the APBT or Staffordhshire Terrier rarely exceeded 40 pounds in proper trim.
