I have a 95 contour SE and am getting a code that the egr valve is not openning. Looked up hot to remove it in the haynes manual which does not tell me wich tools i need. I can remove every thing but the but the connector on the bottom. I think it requirs a 25 or 26 mm wrench but im not shure. Unless it comes off someother way it looks like I need to buy another tool. Can someone please tell me what I need to get to get that valve off.

The wrench for the EGR tube is 1 1/16". Don't bother removing the IAC, as removing the IAC is probably just as hard as removing the EGR valve with the IAC in the way.

Edit - Oh yeah, also, it turns a way that seemed backwards to me the first time I did it for some reason. Basically, if you're wrenching on it from the driver's side, you want to take the wrench and crank down on it to loosen.

Of course, that would depend on which side of the EGR you put the wrench... LOL

Of course, since the original poster didn't give the exact code, I can only assume it was a 332 code.

In any event, the EGR valve is probably NOT the reason for the code. The 332 code shuld be treated the same as a P0401 code in 96-on vehicles.

If he replaces the EGR valve and the code and CEL remains, he has no one but himself to be pissed at for not researching the code on this forum.

I can only COMPLETELY agree with you. Passages and DPFE would be my more likely suspects.

Thank you everyone for your input you all are very helpfull. I did look on this site for a couple hours but I am a novice compared to the most of you expecially with the lingo. This is my first and only car. Yes, I was getting 332 code and I think I need to look into replace the DPFE sensor.

A little background on my car- I had some exaust problems and had to have the precat's cleaned out and replaced the 2 exaust sensors. My thoughts were that it was related to this previous problem.

I already got the egr valve. But I will look into replace the sensor first and see if that fixes the problem. Thanks for helping me out.

TEST the EGR system first before buying the sensor. All it takes is a short piece of vacuum line.

You might need only a throttle body gasket and a passage cleaning.
