Hey, it seems my air conditioner has stopped working. Yesterday got so warm that I decided to turn it on but it never changed temperature. Someone suggested to me that I might just need my freon changed? No CEL or anything like that.
Any suggestions? TIA

First off Freon was old days also called R-12. Now a days 134A is used. Secondly it may be out of 134A, or you may have a leak and it leaked out.
If a shop does it for it they will add a leak detector, so you use it for a few days then go back, and they use a floursent light to look for the dye if they see it there is your leak.

You know what? I noticed the same thing on my 99se today. It finally got warm outside, and after having the a/c on for 5 minutes I still had warm air. Time to cut the mechanic a check...

You guys should at least try a recharge kit (link) that can be found at any auto parts store before getting bent over by a shop. A kit is about $30. You're mostly paying for the hose & attached gauge. A can of R134A is fairly inexpensive alone. The gauge will tell you what level you're at and how much too add if low.
The shrader valve is on the right side (drivers side) of the engine when you're looking at it.

Yeah, Todd is right. Those 30.00 recharge kits are deffeintly worth a shot. Considering a regualr recharge at a shop is as much as 100.00+. And they do the exact smae thing... just a bigger machine. Considering if they recharge the system and that does nto work, you are out 100 bucks or so. If you have a leak, be prepared to shell out, AC repair's are expensive. Also, may wanna stop by some well known shops that offer AC inspections, sometimes for free. They'll tell ya whats up. Just a note... my old CSVT had warm air syndrome and a mechanic added the leak dye to it, never foudn the leak. THe condenser was shot and to replace it, $1100.00 parts/labor.

too bad I can't get the kits in Wisconsin or I'd give that a try. All the auto flyers in the paper always have a disclaimer about it not being available here....oh well, off to the mechanic i go

Yes... but the internet is your FRIEND. You can buy these kits online, probably cheaper.

Anyone ever used one of the recharge kits? I'm just curious how easy it is to use.

The recharge is really straightforward. There is a shrader valve that you hook up the refrigerant to on the low pressure side. You can not even mess that up because the high pressure side is a different size. Just follow the directions with the kit. I have also used the dye to find leaks, as the recharge did not hold. I had to change the condenser which had a leak.
