Sorry for calling you out specifically, but reading through the archives it looks like you're pretty much the forum expert on the 1-2 person transaxle removal/replacement in the garage. I was wondering if you could post step-by-step procedures of "your way".

Thanks

i can help here

put car on jackstands (on frame rail, not subframe)

disconenct and remove

battery
intake setup (pipe, tube, filter, airbox etc)
starter
axles - pop out lower balljoint. no need to take brakes or anything else off

unbolt rack and pinion, i unbolted it from the subframe, and it was a PITA

secure radiator with zip ties

disconnect wires going to the tranny

unbolt radiator, ac canister from subframe

drop subframe

put jack under tranny, remove bell housing bolts and toruque convertor bolts (if its an atx)

take tranny out

that easy

Wouldn't you still need to support the engine from above? like with a hoist or bridge?

Yes, you need to support the engine from above. You will also have to support the radiator somehow. The radiator is held in with supports that bolt to the subframe.

You will also have to take the exhaust apart. Take the y-pipe and Cat out. You have to also undo the shift cables.

When you take the line off the clutch slave cylinder you need to have something there to catch the fluid. Over a day or two it will all leak out of the master cylinder.

It might be obvious, but got to say it - you should take the wheels off to get to everything.

You do also have to remove the sway bar ends from the shocks. The sway bar is connected to the subframe.

I found that the bolts that hold the steering rack to the frame are very tight and hard to get to. I un-did the hoses and pulled the rack out with the subframe. I might try undoing the rack and install it first this time. It is very hard to get very thing in place with the lines and all on the subframe.

The starter is on top of the tranny and will need to come out also. The starter wiring is a little tricky to get at.

Finally do not forget to unplug the speed sensor.

Good luck

I guess ignore the clutch stuff if you have an automatic.

get some cotter pins to hold up the radiator up top in the engine bay. You can see the holes really easily, also the starter removal is a PITA I removed mine after the tranny was already out.
