1. Their not that much lighter
2. Yes they do
3. They don't hookup well stock... but modded is a different story there is auto max that cut 1.7 60' time...

You WERE aware of the multiple awards the Duratec received? Wards top 10 HOW many years in a row?

If demon put a big turbo to kick in at 5,000 rpm he would definately be in the 12's. Right?!

Gosh it'd be great to dyno Demon's car to figure out hp numbers for all that work wouldn't it?

I don't think 12's is that far away...look at Demon...freaking close...

an then many of the turbo guys have never ran their car...and yes traction is a HUGE problem, but what about a good boost controller? I am not positive, but it seems like the turbos guys that have run...didn't have a progressive boost controller...just a high/low one. Don't you think that would help? I am thinking this is the year (and no not by me, I will have gobs of power, but I am at about 4500 ft elevation...a 12 sec car here is quite a task)

You are correct. Most of the turbo guys are broke after the installs so drag radials and slicks aren't being used along with progress boost controllers. Those things are a chunk of change by themselves!

My best run to date of 13.82@109 was with stock width tires, 215-50's that were already a year old and with only a single stage boost controller.
I could easily do significantly better with a two stage controller so I didn't burn all the way through 1st and 2nd.

Why not just do a complete engine swap. Convert the car to a rear-wheel drive car, slap a supercharger on the new engine, custom fab all mounts and maybe extend the front end, and you'll have a 12 second car. If you dont, throw some nitrous on it to. Anything is possible, even if it's not probable. So wouldn't a better question to ask be...is it probable to...*whatever*?

Short answer:

no.

Take a handling-based, touring heritaged car and completely reverse engineer everything to turn it in to nothing more than a "usual" dragster....

MUCH too expensive, and WAY too time-consuming.. why waste that much time and GOBS of money to do the same thing a proven platform can do for a 10th of the price?

Ask any turbo tour out there if they purchased the turbo SO that they could run 12's or better... I bet they say no.. (someone will say yes to spite me...lol)

The handling is the niche of this vehicle.. being able to HANDLE, all while doing it at speeds faster than anything else on the freeway/roadcourse/road is nirvana (for me, at least...)

All he asked was is it POSSIBLE to get into the 12's. The answer is yes. I didn't say it would be cheap or look pretty, but it would be a contour svt that is in the 12's.
