When Ford made the change, they didn't bother to tell dealership employees and we had several that we attempted to add a key to like could be done on the early 98s that failed, just like you have described.

Your car will need to be programmed to accept the second key, using a factory scanner.

Big Jim, Ive read that the cutoff was March 1st 98. Thats when the PATS II was introduced. My car was made 2/28/98. Are these dates correct?

Also I printed out this info about PATS where it says to initiate a new master key to insert the NEW key turn to run position, pats light will blink for 15mins . When stops blinking repeat process w/in 5 minutes. It will again blink for 15mins. When stops blinking repeat process again w/in 5 mins. (total of 3 times). This key will now be programmed into the vehicles computer and replaced ALL previous key codes and is the ONLY key programmed into he vehicles computer.

That being said perhaps I can try programing the once working programmed key to work w/ the newly programmed key.

I dunno just looking for options.
