I have a new found love for the AWD platform after driving my 3000GT VR4. I have yet to be beaten in any stoplight challenge because I can launch at about 3 - 3.5k RPM and just lunge forward while V8 RWD cars either bog or burn out. Although I loved my Contour SVT for other reasons, the VR4 with its Twin Turbo/AWD combo make it a fun stoplight king.

I beg of you to go to IIRC Minusa.com and start in for options that interest you. I built a nice MiniS and was at 22K without the NAV system and other options. Hell the metallic paint is a $400 option. BMW-Mini has a low base price but the options really really add up!

WRX----YUCK...... Car stock is miserable in appearance and living in California a moonroof is a must have....Leather, oh yeah!

And to those complainers about Ford Leather, I think all of you have the Blue interior. Come sit in my buttery smooth tan leather and you will be amazed at how well Ford did. I have friends with the blue and it does not look-feel anything like mine. Theres is crusty and hard and really really thick. Maybe I got a good cow, but I'm really pleased and have had comments on how comfy my front seats are.

If you have a need for 4-doors get a G35 in 6-months for 26,100 MSRP w/ the 6spd! May not be the prettiest of cars but will be somewhat exclusive and 260RWHP w/ 6spds! What more can you want?

2-doors and shear HP, shop around for a nice WS6. Mustang GT's are Blah, everyone has one.... WS6 turns my head everytime!

Compared to the CSVT, the WRX is simply an UGLY car. eek

As for the performance, I suggest that we all watch tomorrow the spanish F1 Grand Prix and all those tiny HP and torque differences we are considering will look ridiculous... laugh

Enjoy your CSVT ! It's one of rare sport sedans that still catch the eye after 4 years of production. In my opinion, it is also the best balanced car in terms of performance, handling, quality and cost.

You know what, it would have been THE perfect car, had it been RWD. Every other sports sedan out there is RWD, and it's one of the SVT's major faults. Food for thought.

I saw Mini S here in Duluth, GA,,,i thought it was very good looking and seemed it would be fun to drive. If i didnt have so much work related stuff to lug around, i would get one. Plus,,,one subwoofer would open that car up like an old Comet airplane suddenly decompressing!

I just ordered a new 2002 Subaru WRX yesterday in Santa Fe. I posted about this in the off topic forum. The more I thought about it the more I couldn't find a better substitute. I ordered the Sportwagon in Aspen White, with the diff cover, armrest extension, air filtration, and gauge cluster (boost p.s.i., volts, and oil temp). How can you beat a perfect safety record thanks to front and side dual airbags, side impact beams, four wheel disk brakes with ABS? It also has some serious power, a great driving position, a tasteful interior, sporty suspension, AWD, and room for people? I needed the wagon since I race bicycles, and carry a lot of stuff. It also has a .33 Cd, and a top speed of 140 but it's drag limited and I've recently read that it will be goverened to 130. I thought that its drag coefficient would be worse, with the huge fog lights and the air dam, but apparantly not. I love the car! Plus, it's Japanese, so it should be extremely reliable!

this is true. i've saved a couple and i always end up around 24k (withuot nav, i think it looks too kooky). but these aren't going to be run-of-the-mill cars like the old Mini's or the new beetle. production is only around 12,000 for this year, with about half of those being the 'S' version. and with so many variations in exterior/interior, nav/no-nav, leather/cloth/leatherette, sunroof, no sunroof, the chance of a neighbor having the same car is slim to none.

and besides, you get to take it to a BMW dealer for service. so, they have to treat you just like the 7 series land yacht owners.

we're essentially talking about a small bimmer with 163 HP, weighing about 2700 lbs, 17 inch wheels, multi-link rear suspension, 6 speed manual, big sunroof, leather, and room for 4 (kind of).

sounds like a sweet deal to me.
