Hey, have any of you seen the newer FoMoCo vehicles with the flashing middle brake light? Think to yourself, wow, that would be cool? Here's a schematic for a circuit to do it, haven't tried it yet, but I'm going to radio shack after work...

EDIT: Might help if I put the url in, huh? http://www.uoguelph.ca/~antoon/circ/flashing.htm

well, just my .02.....i personally HATE those infernal blinking 3rd brake lights - whether they're on honda's, ford's, toyota's, or whatever. i don't see the point....the purpose of the CHMSL (3rd brake light) is to help people better distinguish that yes, you are braking for some reason, and having that light turn on and then OFF repeatedly doesn't help the issue, IMHO. sorry, but those things annoy the tinkle outta me.

not like my approval means doodly squat, of course, and to each their own...but, just as my opinion, i hate 'em. maybe i'm just weird....

I have to agree with Blake. Maybe I'm confused about what it actually does but does'nt sound like the brightest idea to me. Maybe aomething like KIT from "Knight Rider" where the lights flash back and forth. That would be cool but not blinking lights

I believe the blinking third brake light is more of a distraction.

IMHO

I think it's funny that you guys are explaining the point of the flashing light. It's to get your attention, so you know the car is doing something. For those of you who haven't seen them, the center light flashses for about 5 seconds after you apply the brakes, then goes steady. I think it's great. Everytime I see it, it sure get's my attention. It's might be annoying or distracting, but how many people said that when they first started putting the center brake light in? I couldn't get everything I needed at the radio shack tonight unfortunately, so I have to go to the local surplus place tomorrow and grab the parts. Let you all know what's up when I get it done...

I didn't get a chance to take a look at the schematic you made but it would be as simple as putting in a flasher. Very, very easy to do. IMHO, having it flashing while braking would be odd. I have seen some that flash when you have the turn signals on. That I like better and it's still as easy as a flasher and a couple more things. FWIW

I agree that this is not a good move. A flashing CHMSL would mean the same as a constantly lit light while pulling away from a light or on the highway: the driver should not be behind the wheel because he doesn't know how to keep the left foot off the brake.

I agree with GOODY that it sure gets your attention, although I'm not impressed with them...Chrysler originally came out with it last year I think...and the other manufactures quicky followed suit. Just another gadget and before long all cars will have them and no one will take notice.
