there's also enough material to thread the lower license plate mounts.
You could just hack off the split/striped plastic threaded section and use nuts. Alot of the license plate bolt kits come with nuts. I think you can access the backside without having to remove the whole assembly... but if you can't access it, then you could just hot glue or JB weld the nut to the plastic.
