Yeah. I have something similar. A few months ago, I was mailed a parking ticket. The ticket was given in a city I have never been to (several hours from my home) and it was for a Volkswagen (a car I've never owned). I had to fax my current registration on both cars and write up a letter requesting it be removed. After about a week, they let it go.
It's strange what can happen when the officer writes the wrong license plate down.
