If you want to know what a Contour can tow I'd suggest you look around the Mondeo Enthusiast's Group. In Europe most people don't have pickups, and not as many have SUVs. They do most of their towing with saloons (sedans) and estates (wagons) like the Ford Mondeos and Vauxhaul Vectras. As for the wiring I would just take out the tail lights and splice into those wires. My car does have what appears to be a tow connector in the trunk on the driver's side under the carpet, but I might be wrong.
