Sorry for the long post but its 3 weeks of details wrapped up in this baby.

Well today marks the 3 week anniversary that Ford has had my car now. The problem was that my fuel gauge did not work properly. The low fuel light would ALWAYS be on and the gauge would either read "full" or "empty" upon startup and stay there.

So...I took my car to Ford. They do a diagnosis and say they are going to start looking at the fuel pump. They call me back and say the fuel pump is ok. I ask what about the sending unit. They say its the same thing and its ok. So they tell me they have to dig deeper. They call me back aprox. 2 days later and say they think its the fuel gauge itself and they are ordering one. I say ok order it. Days pass, I call to check up...still no part. About a week later they tell tell me the part had to come from Mexico and they apoligize for the delay. Two days pass and they call and say its not the fuel gauge so they have to dig deeper. Couple more days pass and they say they believe it is the circuitry behind the cluster itself. They tell me the cluster is no longer made but when it was it went for $600. They said they have found a replacement for the circuitry from las Vegas and now I have to wait for the part to be delivered now. Days pass. They call me and say its not the circuitry either and we have no idea what to do. They say when they disconnect the speedometer the low fuel light goes off and the gas gauge reads correctly. So they say they think they need to get a new speedo. He then tells me they are obsolete and the part can't be found..so nothing can be done. At this point I start freaking out on this guy. I tell him about this guy (Bill Jenkins) in LV b/c he usually has all sorts of parts for us (CEG'ers). I have the customer service rep call him. He calls me back apoligizing for the fact that someone didnt search the database correctly and that now there is a speedo and they are ordering it. My feeling is that Bill talked some sence into these idiots.

So now Im still waiting (3 weeks since I dropped the car off) for the speedo to come in hoping that this fixes the problem. I told the guy flat out Im only paying for the part that fixes the car and the labor to put in that part in nothing else. Im wondering if there is anything else that can be done about this horendous situation and to save me some $ b/c of it.

Thanks

Damn man really sry to hear. But I hope this fixes it and good way to stick it back on them with only paying for what is causing the problem. And finally Bill is the man.

What did the stealership guy say when you said you would only pay for the part that caused the problem?

Well one thing that you can do is go in there with a shotgun and say "give me all your money....and that is one fine looking GT over." People just give you things when you have a gun...it is awesome. 3 Weeks is just an insane amount of time for a place to have a car. I have never had to wait more than 2 days.

he said yes you will only pay for that part that does fix the problem. I also said that I am not paying for all this waisted time in labor either, and that 3 weeks of you guys having my car would have the labor fees through the roof. he said I will only be paying for the labor for this part b/c it wouldnt be fair for you to pay for all that other time. this all sounds good and dandy but I'll wait till I see the bill. That will be the tell tale if I go ape [censored] on everyone.

All this being said do you think there is anything else that can be done or said in my favor to save myself some $. Also what do you guys figure a FAIR bill for this work would be?

Thanks

Don't know about PA law, but here in CA you would probably now have an enforceable oral contract for the terms stated above. But oral contracts are hard to prove in court. So see if you can get the stealership to write you a new work order with the above terms in it before they do any more work. Tell them you are concerned about the problems they have encountered so far and you just want to know where you stand IN WRITING. Explain that you will be a loyal customer in the future (note: that's a big lie; you shouldn't go back to them) and that you just want to have a new work order that reflects the agreement they already have with you.

In fairness, they should have given you a free rental car as soon as they realized they blew the diagnosis. And they shouldn't charge you for anything but the parts and labor that really fixed the problem.

Note: in CA, you can be required to pay even for repair work that was not really needed. In other words, under CA law, when you agree to have repair work done, your obligation to pay the bill is generally not contingent on the diagnosis being right.

perhaps that new work order idea will work. As far as a rental car my car is not under a warranty or anything w/ Ford, nor did I buy it there. I just needed A ford dealership to work on it b/c I couldnt fix it myself. So that being said I didnt think they were obligated to give me a free rental. Maybe if I argue that point they will deduct some $ from the bill.

People always say "Ford", when it's really an independently owned dealership. Ford doesn't run them, so look around for service/parts.

At least they haven't been breaking stuff on your car. A dealership doing my wiring harnesses broke my windshield and had three other cars in a different part of the bay get torched when some guy dropped a fuel tank on a battery.

as far as know they havent broke anything. I just installed the GB indiglo's and tell them everytime I talk to them that those indiglo's better be on there when I pick up the car. There were specially made. I also drive by every other day or so to see where the cars at, if its been moved etc.

I was thinking the other day...maybe Foose took my car and "overhaulin" is doing some crazy stuff to my SVT, and that explains the 3 weeks of excuses and run arounds.....then I woke up.

Anyway I called today and said it better be done by thurs b/c I need it b/c Im going out of town.
