Yeah, this recall was due to a faulty flap in the filler neck. The flap stuck closed, usually making it difficult if not impossible to add fuel. But backsplash might also be a side-effect. Some people have "checked" the flap by poking a narrow, straight object into the filler neck. Try this at your own risk.
