Here is a new fun problem.

Ocasionally when i let a pump fill till auto-shutoff about a cup of fuel will spill out from somewhere under the filler cap possibly the neck thing. I haven't traced the location down exactly yet. Any ideas on what would be causing this?

If its related, my gas mileage sucks right now too, but thats probably a tune-up issue (60k miles)

i had the same issue but it only happened when i would over fill the tank. Meaning keep filling the tank after it stopped already.

Eerily enough this happened to me tonite as I filled up.

It's never happened to me before either, and I remember having problems getting the pump to go at the start. I've also never been to that station before.

I'd chalk it up to an odd gas pump. I think sometimes it helps too if you stop pumping near the end to let the fuel level out a bit.

There is a recall on the fuel necks on the contours. I haven't had this problem but when i was checking on all the recalls at my friendly ford dealership it was on the list. I told the guy that i wanted it done but he says that they only replace them if you are having problems with it. Its worth looking into and if it hasn't been done to yours it will be free. Its best to just call and give them your VIN# and ask them if its been done yet. lol!

Yeah, this recall was due to a faulty flap in the filler neck. The flap stuck closed, usually making it difficult if not impossible to add fuel. But backsplash might also be a side-effect. Some people have "checked" the flap by poking a narrow, straight object into the filler neck. Try this at your own risk.
