However, the WRX is not a race car. It is attempting to be a consumer market sport sedan at a very premium price. For the premium price, it is fair to expect premium features, and to have comfort and convenience features present even in economy cars.
If the car cost $20K - $21K, I could make excuses to justify the equipment level, even though it's not the car for me. However, the extra $4000 makes me consider the car a poor value.
On the driving side, that's personal choice. I personally hated everything but the acceleration on the WRX. Don't rule out FWD, it's as good as anything else, and test drive a lot of cars.
Hella: 100% agreed on all points. I love the interior for form, function, and having a large amount of features for the dollar.
Fluid, also consider the horsepower war has escalated rapidly since 1998. The SVT Contour was a fast powerful car for it's time.

The leather doesnt make it a nice interior, its the comfort of it and the layout of the switches and controls. About the trans, all cars have there weak points. But your right I guess.Although I havent had any probs with mine,as a matter of fact I find it rather smooth. Boost limited? Why are you worried about that? You dont have a supercharger do you?Besides I dont think the engine is the problem, its the supercharger itself.Unless of corse you wanna go crazy and run way to much boost, which would eventually kill about any engine not designed to run a supercharger or turbo. Relax guy! The SVT is a really nice car, alot of guys and girls would love to have one. I cant speak for the WRX,but Im sure all that power and whipping up on everyone, great traction etc etc would get old after awile too....

If I were you, I'd consider a quaife and possibly a 3.0 along with suspension mods if you haven't already done them... but it's readily apparent you don't love this car the way I do so perhaps the WRX would be a better option for you. You should speak with 1sickpuppy from the SE Michigan category as he just got a WRX and say's it handles better stock than his modded SVT.

and boost limited high compression motor are more of my selling points. I prefer to think of motors as those that require boost to avoid getting killed by the neighbor kids moped and those that don't. Without a turbo the WRX is 0.5L down on power from the anemic 2.5RS. As far as the tranny, well some are running over 300HP with stock tranny. And others have taken advantage of the services of one of the best box builders on the planet - the legendary Mr. Haines. Not to mention the fact that we can get the Quaife at 1/2 the usual price - which basically eliminates the main FWD problem on a road coarse. So, its not that bad a situation for us...

Want big power in a new car for cheap? Screw all that import and turbo crap and get a mustang and run 13.80s as soon as you pull off the lot.

To all the people putting down the WRX, how many of you have actually driven one? I was one of the disbelievers (bland interior, no leather, no sunroof, ugly body, etc), but after a 10 minute test drive, I was ready to sign on the dotted line. It's an amazing car!
I loved my SVT, but come on now, the interior is pure generic Ford. Yeah, we got leather seats, but it's lousy leather, nothing like the Maxima or anything. We have to add a Quaife if we want to drive the car really hard, or else worry about breaking the diff everytime we go to the track. We have to transplant a 3L engine into the car to make some decent power. Add up the cost, and it just doesn't make sense.
The SVT was a bargain at the time, but there are alot more competative cars out now, at very similar prices. If the WRX was out 4 years ago when I bought my SVT, I probably would have bought the WRX. AWD, crazy aftermarket, tons of power potential, why not?

i went for a drive in a very lightly modded WRX a few weeks back and i almost pissed my pants. it is a very well-built car for the money, and can be tossed around corners like a high-class ho.
or you could wait for the G35 coupe. 280 RWHP, 6 speed manual, gorgeous exterior, and 18 inch wheels (17s are stock), LSD. and it's an infiniti.

Cartman, I was one of those disbelievers who wanted to be converted to a believer with the test drive. Instead, the car turned out to be even more of a disappointment after I drove it.

Put me on the fence for the WRX. I drove one for about 2K mi. and expected a little more performance. However, considering the Cadillac-quiet exhaust of the one I drove, I'm sure there is a lot of easily-found potential in these cars.
There a 4 people at work with them now; the last guy got his for $500 over invoice. Looks like the hype is fading.

What's the point of having a WRX if everyone else does? There is no exclusivity, no individuality. I have driven one, and yes it is fast and fairly nimble, but if I'm dropping money on a car I want it to stand out somewhat....I shouldn't have to spend 3-4k on aesthetic mods to differentiate from the 90 million WRX's on the road. That may seem petty to some people but for me it makes all the difference in the world. Before I had bought my SVT I had thought about getting an Eclipse GSX but quickly changed my mind once I realized how common Eclipses' are on the tuner scene. What's the point of doing something to your car if 20,000 people have done it before you? Becomes played out IMHO [/flame suit]
