Life has gotten much harder for everyone in North America. Although the truckers may be wrong about how they are approaching the problem, no one should take their sacrifice nor their role in commerce for granted.
Many people in North America have become complacent and apathetic with the bureauacracies in power and trust them without scrutiny. More and more companies are outsourcing everyday, and the foundation of our economy is disappearing - by foundation, I mean the factory workers, truck drivers, computer personnel, etc. Other countries are competing for YOUR jobs, yet the leaders could care less to promote higher education to compete with the new influx of outsourcing.
They focus on things like social security and steroids - I just want to know, "What will happen when there are less jobs, so less and less people (workers, truckers, factory workers - i.e. THE FOUNDATION)are paying into the ever important social security program?" No jobs = no money = economic depression

How else do you expect truckers to get their message across? Truckers are treated with the NIMBY syndrome. Nobody wants them around but expects them to do their job.

They haul everything that you own right now. Give them a little respect..
Sorry, but bzzzt. No.
How stupid are they ? Everybody's dealing with high gas prices, it's not isolated to them.
Gas taxes are only 30% of the pump price, assuming the government takes away the tax, demand will eventually increase to the point that in 2 or 3 years the pump price will be back at where we are. What the [censored] are they going to do then ? Form a blockade in the middle east ?
The era of cheap gas is over, DEAL WITH IT.
Trucks pay more in taxes in one trip than you'll ever pay in a year.

I'm not sure how they do it in Canada (j/k),but here in the US, they can get their message acrossed by voting for someone that appeals to their cause. Which brings me back to my comment about apathy and complacentness with bureaucratic [censored] that are only concerned with self-important issues.
Don't get me wrong, I hear what you're clucking, big chicken - but I just think that there are better ways.

Ain't that the gods honest truth.
Packrat, it's good to see some people actually know what its like to be a truck driver. Most of these people are miss-informed.

Sorry, I don't work at walmart so I don't pay minimum wage taxes.
And the bleeding hearts can kiss my ass. If they can't afford it or scale down or cut costs, then get another job. I will be pissed as [censored] if the provincial government makes us subsidize the truckers.

My dad on average is around 700 bucks to fill it up, figure twice a week.
How many weeks, no MONTHS can you run on 1,400.00 in fuel?
I'm done with this, I can go on about how truck drivers make america run, but you will tell me I'm wrong.
Oh $1400, my heart aches, truly, dearly, so. My soul weeps at the inhumanity.
Considering the United States still has the cheapest gas on the planet by a *wide* margin, I wonder how those truckers in Europe manage with gas costs around $6-$8/gal.

Hey if you dont' want to get personal, then don't use a personal comment. Dont' throw stones if you live in a glass house buddy.
I guess you can't expect much in the form of thinking about consequences when you work at walmart.

The problem is truckers represent a minority section of voters and most politicians don't give a [censored] about them because the NIMBY crowd is larger, speaks louder and carries a bigger stick.
